Russia’s Climate Problem and Opportunity by The Cipher Brief discusses some of the climate change in Russia and what they have done about it. Discussing Putin’s choice to leave the Paris Climate accord in 2019 and the idea that Russia is attempting to use climate change as an advantage. Increased energy stores and increased agricultural output are two of the things that were discussed in this article as being on the side of this idea. It also discusses that Russia does little to decrease their carbon emissions. Melting permafrost is identified as one of the most detrimental effects of climate change to Russia due to the disruption and destruction caused when the permafrost melts and the ground becomes soft, sometimes causing sinkholes, and even causing buildings to collapse. This article had a lot of information on the effects of climate change focusing on three main points and what they do to the nation. It also discussed what Russia has done with regards to the current global push towards climate protection, which is very little when compared directly to some countries. I think this article had a lot of good information but I also feel as though with something like this it could change very quickly.
