The article I found for this week’s topic was How Is The NZ Government Tackling Adversities Of Climate Change? By Kalkine. This article caught my attention because I had been seeing a lot in the articles I looked at about the dedication New Zealand has had with trying to help stop climate change and to work toward a better tomorrow. I also wanted to do an article on New Zealand because I have a friend that lives there so I was genuinely interested in what is going on there. This article discusses the pledge made to be a carbon neutral government by 2025, as well as some of the more pressing issues facing them. Such as the melting of glaciers and the rise of average temperatures. It then goes into discussing some of the actions they are taking and some of the budgets which have been put in place. These include walking and biking initiatives and a decrease in the price of public transport in the hopes to encourage people to use alternatives to their personal vehicles. It also discussed the milestone of their first auction of emissions allowance which saw a lot of support from large companies and businesses. Overall this article was interesting to read and had recent information that I am happy I now know. I do wish them the best of luck because 2025 feels so close. But if they can manage then that should send a message that it is possible and become a beacon that hopefully others will attempt to mimic.
